IN CONVERSATION: CHASE HALL AND MICHAEL GOVAN

PUBLIC PROGRAM
Join us at our LA gallery at 7 PM on Thursday, November 21 for a conversation between Chase Hall and Michael Govan, LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director. The conversation will center on Halfrican, Hall's current solo exhibition, which—as the title suggests—poses questions about how identities are constituted and features a selection of new paintings that broaden the artist's visual vocabulary through a series of intimate yearbook-like portraits, an expansive 24-foot painting, and a deepened engagement with materials like coffee and cotton. RSVP for the conversation here.

SAM GILLIAM MONOGRAPH BY PHAIDON

NEW PUBLICATION
Published by Phaidon, the definitive monograph of Sam Gilliam, one of the great innovators in postwar American painting, is available for pre-order. This book, made in close collaboration with Gilliam’s estate, is the first to comprehensively survey the breadth of his extraordinary career. The monograph includes texts by poet and essayist Ishmael Reed, curator Mary Schmidt Campbell, curator and writer Andria Hickey, and Sam Gilliam. On December 3, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will host a diverse panel of Sam Gilliam experts and scholars to examine the pioneering artist’s legacy and his influence on contemporary art. MARTHA DIAMOND AT THE ALDRICH CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM

SOLO MUSEUM EXHIBITION
On view from November 17, 2024 through May 18, 2025 at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and co-organized by the Colby College Museum of Art in Maine, Martha Diamond: Deep Time is a focused survey of Diamond’s career, featuring paintings, works on paper, and monotypes. The exhibition proposes “deep time” as a new way of understanding Diamond’s contribution to American painting: in conversation with both ancient monuments and the modern skyscraper, and carrying its own distinctive psychology and ecology, Diamond’s art thinks about time and across time.
